Burning myself out on my startup

Burnt. Out.

It is Wednesday evening and I’m feeling a bit burnt out. I worked (my job) until almost 6pm, just got done mowing the yard, and am hungry and tired.

Earlier in the week I wrote and posted an article on how to integrate a PHP website with a Mailchimp email list using CURL and Mailchimp’s API. The article isn’t long, but it does a nice job explaining the Mailchimp setup and PHP CURL side.

I’ve been writing a lot and am exhausted. The blog is new and gets no traffic or impressions and traffic over at Menyu is still in recovery from a Google Index issue months ago as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’ve now worked on the startup daily for hours each day for many months (since early November 2019 to be exact) with no tangible, positive result to show for it. It makes it insanely difficult to stay positive and persistent. It’s starting to take a toll on my mental health, but it is what it is. I’m not going to give up, so I’ll keep pushing forward as I do believe very much in Menyu.

Kevin and his friend are in the pre-launch phase of a new SaaS product for barber shops. I’m going to help with future software development, which is the PHP Laravel framework 5.8. Laravel has a learning curve and I’ve never used it, so I’m looking forward to digging into that.

Helping with the SaaS, I see my writing slowing down a lot, but I’m still going to try and get an article out every couple of weeks. If anything, I’ll still post in this Founder Journal since it’s my actual journal about my startup struggles.

Kevin and I will record two episodes of our podcast tomorrow evening. We might touch on restaurants opening back up for dine-in across the country, our new blog (this one), and him and his friend’s pending SaaS launch.

A lot of good stuff going on, now we just need some results…
